All performances are chosen to reinforce the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) testing.

Some of these shows are available to travel to your school if there are enough students to participate. Ticket prices will remain the same but this would be a way to help with rising transportation costs. If you would like any of these shows to be brought to you instead of your school traveling to The Dixie, please contact Angela Chasse at The Dixie at 731-986-2100 ext. 224.

Please confirm your reservation numbers two weeks prior to the performance. A Dixie representative will be contacting you by phone, but if you do not hear from us please contact the box office at 731-986-2100 to confirm. This final count you give, two weeks prior to the performance, is what you will be billed for and what you are financially responsible for as payment. NO CHANGES will be accepted.

This is a FREE concert presented by The Nashville Symphony Orchestra in which the audience will explore the basic building blocks of music: melody, harmony, and rhythm. For concert preparation, teachers will receive a study CD and Teacher Resource Guide complete with lesson plans, background information, and suggested student projects.

The year is 2158 and Earth’s first community on Mars is three years old. Comprised of people from around the world, it is starting to thrive. And now the new "global community" is about to make history. Studio Broadcast Mars is bustling with excitement. Pete Flick, head broadcaster, has been working with his friends to create a fantastic transmission. At first, everything in the broadcast proceeds as planned — but then something goes terribly wrong.

Perhaps the best loved holiday story of all time, this adaptation of Dickens’ classic is particularly suited to children, and features a magnificent score by Jule Styne, the composer of Broadway’s immortal Peter Pan, Gypsy, and Funny Girl. All the joy, sentiment and meaning are here, without being too scary for young audiences.

Adapted by Mark Frattaroli and based on the award-winning novel by Natalie Babbitt, the story follows Young Winnie as she leaves her grandmother’s house for an adventure in the woods. There she meets Jesse Tuck whose family has a secret: they have stumbled upon a spring whose waters grant immortality. The family strives to hide themselves and the spring from the sinister Man in the Yellow Hat who is desperate to discover the origin of their perpetual youth. It is left for Winnie to discover that the only thing that is truly everlasting is love.

First recognized as the ideal play by Aristotle in the Fourth Century, B.C., this play, written by Sophocles, has mesmerized readers, scholars, and audience members for, literally, thousands of years. This production emphasizes the last desperate moments of a city that is on the verge of extinction. Their leader, Oedipus, stubbornly refuses to give in to the scourge that is destroying his city and its people. This is a city that has one hour left in its long, glorious life; that hour is what you will see in this adaptation.

The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe Grades  1-7

This enchanting musical is based on C.S. Lewis' adventure story about four children of war-torn England, who accidentally enter the land of Narnia by climbing through a magic wardrobe. This strange and wondrous place is ruled by the cold-hearted White Witch, who makes the winter last year round. Although they seem like unlikely saviors, the children fulfill an ancient prophecy by defeating the witch, thus restoring sunshine and peace to the spell-bound Narnia and returning the great Lion King Aslan to his throne.

Audiences will be transported to a lovely French provincial town where the beautiful Belle lives with her father – a dotty inventor. When her father doesn’t return from a trip to the local fair, Belle rushes off to find him. To her dismay, she discovers he is being held captive in an old castle by a horrible beast. She trades her freedom for his and the “tale as old as time” begins.

The original vignettes presented in Simple Gifts, through a combination of virtuoso manipulation, beautiful music, theatrical illusion, and artistic insight, provide a sensitive vision of what it is to be human.

Cuentos Del Arbol (Tree Tales) K-12

The stories within the piece offer pride in the cultural heritage of Spain and Latin America while also providing access to the arts and arts education without a language barrier
