Theatre Camp

Theatre I - Munchkin Magic
1st-4th Grades: 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
As a class we will embrace several theatre games and drama activities that allow students to take enjoyable, vulnerable, and creative risks while creating stronger social skills and teamwork skills ultimately providing a path of confidence and ownership of their ideas and creativity. We will explore activities using song, dance, movement, and props along with improvisation techniques to trigger the creativity within! Come and experience the magic!
Theatre II - Theatre Voyagers
5th-8th Grades: 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Come and explore the brilliance, fun, and excitement that is found in the voice, body, and imagination! As a class we will embrace several theatre games and drama activities that allow students to take enjoyable, vulnerable, and creative risks while creating stronger social and teamwork skills ultimately providing a path of confidence and ownership of their creativity. These creative exercises will also allow students to not only embrace their individual ideas, but also the ideas and creativity of others! We will explore tons of improvisation focusing on character development, projection, movement, diction, teamwork, critical thinking, imagination, scene development, and confidence. It will be a week of pure joy and excitement! No experience is required. Come as you are and get ready to have some fun!
Musical Theatre - Musical Theatre Explorers
9th-12th Grades: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Come dance, sing, and have a week of delightment! Students will learn a piece of choreography along with a piece of music from a famous musical! We also will explore several theatre games and drama activities that will allow students to take ownership of their creativity and ideas as well as the creativity and ideas of others! We will focus on strong and committed choreography, facial expressions, character singing, character development, projection, diction, stage direction, stage presence, and confidence. No experience is required. Come and wiggle to the music!

“Exploring the Natural World”
Color! Pattern! Texture! Paint!
2nd-4th Grades: 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
5th-8th Grades: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
High school/Adults: 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Students will paint their way into the natural world as they explore the gorgeous patterns of both flora and fauna found in nature. Students will be inspired through the use of beautiful visuals as well as some found natural elements. Grades 2 - 4 will create both large and small scale paintings. Grades 5 – 8 will work on one large scale painting most of the week as well as a “just for fun” individual project which will be student directed. Teens and Adults will come together as they investigate composition possibilities, color mixing and form. Each class is designed to accommodate any experience level and all students will be encouraged to create individual and unique interpretations of structure within nature.
Sewing Camp

Sew What
1st-4th Grades: 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
5th-8th Grades: 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
This class teaches the basic hand stitching method. Students will also construct individual pieces from found materials such as recycled fabrics and buttons, among other items. “Sew What” class will be practical and creative!

Cost:
$85.00 for Theatre/Sewing camp per student.
$85.00 for 2nd-4th Painting camp per student.
$100.00 for 5th-Adult Painting camp per student.
Scholarships are available and the form comes with the regular application.
Applications and payment due: Friday, May 24, 2013 but classes may fill early! If spots still available we will accept applications no later than June 3, 2013.
Parents, please use the grade your child will be in for Fall 2013 school year.
These camps will all take place in the lower level of The Dixie.

Kindermusik Camp for ages 6 months - 5 years with a parent or caregiver

JUNE
10:15-11:00 Monday-Friday, June 3-7
"Up in the Sky" will explore things your child sees in the sky: birds, kites, clouds, sun, stars, and moon through music and movement. Each day you and your child will love singing, dancing, and playing instruments with friends and your child will practice a wide variety of abilities such as gross and fine motor skills, turn-taking, social skills, and active listening. Plus, the fun (and learning!) continue with the Kindermusik@Home digital home materials, including music from class, musical activities, and a story.
Price: $65.00 includes tuition and Home Materials. Families with more than one child enrolled will receive a discount.

Summer Session – Class meets once a week on four Tuesdays in July (9, 16, 23, 30) at 10:00 a.m.
“Marvelous Me!” will celebrate each child through music and movement that brings self-discovery and enjoyment of the world around us. For ages 6 months to 5 years with a parent or caregiver. Price: $55.00

Class Description
Classes will consist of an introduction to basic pottery skills of pinching, coil-building, slab construction, and throwing on the potter’s wheel. The student will also be introduced to various glazing and firing processes.
Participant Rules
1. Participants are expected to arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before class is scheduled to begin. The teacher needs time in between classes to clean and prepare for the next class.
2. Parents must be prompt in the pickup of their participants.
3. No food, gum, or drink is allowed in the studio.
4. Please notify the instructor if you will be missing a class. Projects that take place during your absence cannot be made up.
The Dixie reserves the right to dismiss and not enroll participants for the following reasons:
- Financial account not current
- Disruptive behavior
- Disrespect to the instructor
- Disregard to instructions
- Possession of tobacco, alcohol, drugs or weapons.

Mission Statement
Mudslingers Studio is designed to provide a distinctive visual art education program that will empower students to embrace a life of excellence and creativity through their artistic abilities and open doors to imagination and self-confidence. Visual art skills are worthwhile, valuable life skills grounded in discipline and a work ethic that is crucial for any craft. The instructor is a trained professional who provides a quality educational and artistic experience for each participant. Experience is gained by weekly classes culminating in an exhibition held in the Mudslingers Studio.
Lori Neal Nolen
Instructor
Lori attended Union University where she graduated with a BA in ceramic art. While in undergraduate school she studied in France, England, and Italy. After graduation, she attended Alfred University in NY for one year as an artist in residence. She then went on to receive her Masters of Fine Arts degree from the University of Georgia. During this time she also served as a teaching assistant in the UGA Studies Abroad Cortona, Italy, art program. Before becoming the Executive Director at The Dixie, Lori was an Assistant Professor of Ceramic Art and Art History at Union University. She has been teaching children’s pottery classes in West TN for the past 9 years.
