Audition Dates Announced for “Godspell” at The Dixie

The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center announces open auditions for the upcoming production of “Godspell” (Show dates: July 24-26, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.) The show includes a variety of roles for males and females ages 18 and over. Auditions will take place on Monday, June 16 and Tuesday, June 17, 2008 from 6-8:00 p.m. at The Dixie. Specific songs and monologues REQUIRED for auditions will be available for pick-up at The Dixie beginning Monday, June 2nd, 2008. For more audition information, please call The Dixie Box Office at 731-986-2100.

“Godspell” is based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew, and this modern and contemporary retelling is a joyous celebration of music, mime, comedy, and slapstick. The score of “Godspell” calls on all modern musical influences, including Rock, Gospel, and Ragtime - and includes the hits "Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord" and "Day by Day."

The story of “Godspell” speaks to the passion of Jesus Christ, to teach love and joy in the hearts of the people, rather than hate and sadness. It speaks of loving your neighbor, forgiveness, tolerance, and celebration.
